I check manufacturer markings, hinge stamps, serial/model numbers, logo placement, lens etching, and construction details (materials, weight, screws) against known references for that brand and era. Where possible I also cross-check against archival catalogs or brand databases. If a pair can't be confidently verified, I disclose that clearly in the listing rather than sell it as authenticated.
